Cake designer goes mad on custom cake order.

Standard

That should be the headline for this blog entry. As the designer in question I must state my case. A new customer called on Saturday afternoon to order a custom cake for that Sunday, only 1 day away. Usually we ask for a two week window for cake orders but this customer was in a pinch. The designer she had picked to do this cake for her sons reptile themed birthday party had taken ill.
I agreed to do a simple dinosaur reptile themed birthday cake and have it available for pickup that Sunday.

This is where I lost it a bit. After considering several design ideas I decided to upgrade the customers order to a custom 3d cake at no additional cost to her. This is a $200.00 dollar upgrade! In defense of the decision. I am an artist. I saw the possibilities and decided to make it happen. The customer was ecstatic and the smile on her face was payment enough. Take a look at the cake and some other favorites from this weekend.

One of the most complimentary phrases for us here at the cake bakery is “is that a cake”. It means that we have achieved our goal of food masquerade. We had a few opportunities this week to really sink our teeth into some serious cake designs. Every cake is a real effort in cooperation. It all starts with the customer who calls or emails us with a basic design and budget. Our excellent customer service person, Liz, has a way of finding out exactly the best way to put the customers ideas into a concrete design. Next the cake comes to our head designer who determines the best way to use the materials available to best capture the essence of the design. Then either the head designer or the decorator Jennifer works to make the dream a reality. Only after the cake has past the scrutiny of Liz and the head designer is it allowed to leave the shop. So, in short, every cake done has at least three people to impress before it considered good enough to present.
This week was no different. Take a look at some of the custom cakes we produced this week .
